Webcam driver for GoPro Hero cameras (experimental!)
*** This page is outdated. Please use this tool instead ***
The experimental webcam driver for GoPro Hero cameras streams the live video stream from GoPro Hero 2, 3, 3+, and 4 cameras to a Windows PC (the driver is not available for MacOS). This virtual webcam can then be used in applications which support DirectShow webcam input, such as Google Hangouts, Skype, VirtualDub, Sony Vegas, VLC Player, ...
Installation instructions
Please take a look at this YouTube video (click here to open) which shows the following installation instructions in detail.
- Install the Windows Desktop version of Camera Suite.
- Download the webcam driver (zip, ~5MB) and extract the included dll, for instance on your Windows desktop.
- Open a command prompt with administrator privileges.
- Enter "cd Desktop" in the command prompt.
- Enter "regsvr32 cscamsource.dll". The GoPro webcam driver is now installed. You can easily uninstall the driver by entering "regsvr32 -u cscamsource.dll" in the command prompt.
Usage instructions
- Start the Camera Suite application and start the live video streaming server within the Camera Suite app. Make sure that the UDP server port is "10000" and the "Enable UDP streaming server" checkbox is checked.
- Start the "other" application where the video should be shown (for instance Google Hangouts).
- Select the "Camera Suite webcam" from the capturing devices within the "other" application.
Known restrictions
The virtual webcam driver is experimental and not intended for production usage. The following problems are known:
- There can be significant video delay on Hero 4 cameras. This is especially true for the GoPro Hero 4 firmware version 2.0.
- Audio output is not supported.
- The GoPro should always be in video mode.
- The video quality is low because the GoPro provides only low resolution live video feeds.
